Dr Margie Cheesman
Acting Programme Director, Digital Economies MSc
Dr Margie Cheesman is a Lecturer in Digital Economy at the Department of Digital Humanities. She is an anthropologist specialising in the social and political dimensions of emerging technology. Her work examines how technologies like blockchain and biometrics are designed, used, and adapted in sensitive environments - including humanitarian aid, migration management, and financial inclusion initiatives.
She uses ethnographic methods to explore technological change through both everyday lived experiences and institutional practices. Her public interest research contributes to ongoing debates about contemporary forms of inequality and exclusion, and how they can be challenged.
