
Dr Hannan Xiao
Senior Lecturer in Computer Science Education | Programme Director, Advanced Cyber Security MSc
Dr Hannan Xiao is a distinguished academic currently serving as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). She holds a PhD from the National University of Singapore, and both an MEng and BEng from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. She has previously worked as a Principal Lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire and Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore. She was also an Assistant Professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
Dr Xiao's research interests are primarily focused on advanced computing and network systems. She is also interested in the development of robust authentication protocols, enhancing IoT security, and pioneering trust-based access control mechanisms. She is engaged in examining the security and usability of e-learning platforms. This work aims to address challenges in pedagogy and academic integrity within online distance learning environments.

- Xiao’s work and research actively contributes to four of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Good health and well-being, Quality education, Affordable and clean energy, and Industry, innovation and infrastructure.
- Her work has been published in 77 research outputs, encompassing both technical research in cyber security and computer science, as well as pedagogical studies. As such, she is a significant contributor to cutting-edge computer science and cyber security education.
- Xiao holds a BEng and MEng from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and a PhD from the National University of Singapore.
